This is a great time to teach your child about kindness and tolerance. It was set up by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation. It's true that we always try to be kind and encourage our kids to do the same. This week, though, we're paying extra attention to acts of kindness and looking at ways for kids to help others.
Children are naturally kind, and this is a great time to teach them more about how they can be kind and how that can help other people.
Here are 20 great ideas for kids to be kind.
Talk to a new person at school.
Sort through old toys and books and choose some to donate to a charity shop or hospital in your area.
A person reads a book to someone.
Invite a new friend to play with your group of friends.
help around the house without being asked.
Describe why you like your friend in a poem or letter.
People should be able to get in.
Tell a funny storey.
What should I do if I want to make a friend happy?
Write a thank you note to someone you don't know.
Paint a picture for someone you love.
For a worthy cause, start a piggy bank.
Someone should get a cake from you.
To make a bird feeder:
Make a hotel for bugs
Play with your pet
Collect food for the food bank in your area.
Pick up the trash in your neighbourhood park.
The people you don't see very often are your grandparents or other older relatives. Call them now.
Smile! It couldn't be any easier, and happiness spreads quickly.
For some extra inspiration, here are some quotes about kindness that you can share with your kids.
"Love and kindness never go to waste. They always help. They bless the person who gets them, and they bless you, the person who gave them."
The name of the person is Barbara de Angelis.
"A single act of kindness sends roots out in all directions, and the roots grow into new trees." Yes, that's Amelia Earhart.
To do good where you are, do your little bit of good. It's the little bits of goodness put together that make the world go crazy! There are many people who are like Desmond Tutu.
There is a day called Random Acts of Kindness Day on Thursday, February 17. You can get your kids involved on the day by having them colour in this picture.
So hopefully this will help you to get your kids to do some random acts of kindness this week and keep doing them all year long.
